Our Technology

In most cases technology is given too much credit for the "sound" or "look" of an audio or graphics project. Generally, its not the technology, but the knowledge of the person using the technology creatively that provides the magnetism of the project. Science must serve art, not the other way around. But technology that stretches the limits of the art will certainly allows for extended creativity. To this end much of the equipment and technology at Audio Graphic Service is custom built or highly modified. This includes our Graphics Computer, Audio Editing and Analysis Computer System, Mixing Consoles, Custom Microphone Pre-amplifiers (now in the 5th generation), Digital equalizers, Analog to Digital Converters, Digital audio processing systems and our highly accurate Control Room Monitor System. This, along with the years of experience and knowledge of how to use these "tools" of our trade gives us a real advantage. By example, please audition at least one of our projects under good monitoring conditions and judge for yourself.
Buzzword technologies have no place at Audio Graphic Services. All audio and graphics components are measured for adherence to specifications. Our equipment MUST perform. Here is a technical overview of selected audio components for your perusal.

THE AACHEN HEAD with AGS CUSTOM PRE AMPS

The Aachen HEAD (TM) is a binaural recording transducer which correctly reproduces the human auditory transfer function. Originally developed by HEAD Acoustics for the Mercedes Benz noise and vibration labs, the Aachen HEAD was designed for acoustic measurement and analysis work, but is a superb transducer for music recording applications as well. Although binaural recording is not a new technique, the AACHEN HEAD (TM) differs from prior binaural systems in that the AACHEN HEAD (TM) is both headphone and loudspeaker compatible. This is because at zero degrees in the frontal field the Aachen Head response is flat, allowing loudspeaker compatibility. The microphone elements are placed in the pina at the ear canal entrance and equalized to follow the ear transfer function. This transducer system allows sound to be reproduced exactly as it is heard. Audio perspective is preserved. Audio is presented to the human hearing system just as the ear hears it, as distance, direction and arrival time.

Along with the Aachen Head Technology comes AGS's proprietary low noise, wide dynamic range microphone pre amps and over sampling analog to digital converters. This coupled with our vast experience in micing technique presents a highly accurate, detailed and wide dynamic range audio experience when reproduced properly. Our recordings will remain in good perspective when reproduced on high quality reproduction systems with headphones of wide range, flat frequency response and accurate phase response. Listeners with quality loudspeaker reproduction systems will hear a sense of space, depth and direction, detail and accuracy seldom experienced, even in surround systems.

Because this system requires extreme accuracy in all production phases, standard audio production and broadcast techniques will not suffice for the editing, production, mastering, transmission, duplication and reproduction of Aachen Head (TM) and Audio Graphic "Original Digital" (TM) recordings. Because of our agreements in the use of this technology, certain standards of production must be maintained and adhered to. Audio Graphic Services reserves the right to review recordings and post production replicates to assure their integrity at all points in the production process and to reject, terminate use and authorization of use and further reproduction of productions if these standards are not respected.

MONITORING SYSTEM

Another example of our custom technology is the Audio Graphic Services monitoring system. The control room system, displayed below, is a three way system with GILLUM G3 Components for the crossover, Direct Radiator low frequency driver and midrange horn elements. These are enclosed in a properly mounted Klipsch Heresy enclosure with equalization. Below you will find a plot of the actual (real world - NOT idealized) frequency response of this monitor system from the listening position, measured with an IVIE 1134 microphone (random incidence).
